AMES, Iowa (September 22, 2022) – Iowa State University has partnered with The Roasterie Coffee Company to develop a university-branded coffee, “Rise! Iowa State.” The coffee, officially licensed through ISU’s licensing partner CLC, will launch this week with public tastings on Friday from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the ISU Bookstore and Saturday from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Alumni Tailgate at the ISU Alumni Center.

The Roasterie, a Kansas City, Missouri, based coffee company, was founded in 1993 by Danny O’Neill, a 1983 alumnus and longtime supporter of Iowa State. Campus cafes and convenience stores have carried coffee from The Roasterie for years.

“We are proud to continue our founder’s legacy in reinforcing a partnership that has truly been part of the specialty coffee journey for so many ISU students, fans and alumni over the years,” said Isaac Hodges, President of The Roasterie.

The new light roast coffee derives its name from one of the university’s traditional songs, “Rise Sons of Iowa State.” The university’s trademark licensing office worked collectively with The Roasterie and CLC to develop the coffee blend and packaging.

“We are excited to launch this new partnership with The Roasterie and alumnus, Danny O’Neill, to deliver Rise! Iowa State, a uniquely branded coffee to our great ISU community,” said Nick Joos, ISU Senior Associate Athletics Director. “We hope it will become the perfect way to start every game day or warm the cups and hearts of Cyclone fans everywhere.”

Rise! Iowa State will be available in 12 oz. bags of whole bean or ground varieties. In addition to the Iowa State Bookstore, the coffee will also be available at Cyclone Fanatics with additional distribution outlets to come.

In addition to Rise! Iowa State coffee, the university has also licensed consumables such as hamburger, popcorn and cookies. Royalties from the sale of Rise! Iowa State coffee are returned to the university.
